BAGHDAD — Two Multi-National Division – Baghdad Soldiers were killed and two other Soldiers were wounded when an explosive formed projectile detonated near their patrol during combat operations in a southern section of the Iraqi capital July 5.
Units operating in this area of Baghdad continue to conduct clearing operations in an effort to destroy and disrupt insurgent networks. Sustained operations of this nature are designed to reduce sectarian violence and help set the conditions for the improvement of essential services, economic growth and aid in the overall transition of security operations with Iraqi Security Forces in the lead.

was struck by a roadside bomb in western Baghdad July 5.
In the past month this unit has performed several clearing operations and
targeted raids. These operations have netted numerous weapons caches
containing rocket propelled grenades, pistols and AK-47 assault rifles. They
have also detained numerous suspects as the Soldiers continue to provide a
more secure environment for Iraqi citizens.

BAGHDAD, July 7 (Xinhua) — Up to nine U.S. soldiers were killed and eight others were wounded in Iraq, the U.S. military said on Saturday.
Two U.S. soldiers were killed and two others wounded on Friday when a roadside bomb explosion struck their foot-patrol in southern Baghdad, a military statement said.
Another soldier was killed when a roadside bomb hit his patrol in western Baghdad on Thursday, the military said.
Earlier in the day, the military announced the deaths of six more soldiers, including one died in non-battle related incident, and the injuries of six others during the past two days.
Names of the soldiers are being withheld pending notification of next of kin, it added.
About 3,595 U.S. soldiers have been killed in Iraq since the Iraq war broke out in March 2003, according to media count based on Pentagon figures.

US concerns over China weapons in Iraq

The US has raised concerns with the Chinese government about the discovery of Chinese-made weapons in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Richard Lawless, departing senior Pentagon official for Asia, on Friday said Washington had flagged the issue with Beijing. In recent months, the US has become increasingly alarmed that Chinese armour-piercing ammunition has been used by the Taliban in Afghanistan and insurgents in Iraq.
A senior US official recently told the FT that Iran appeared to be providing the Chinese-made weapons. He said Washington had no evidence that Beijing was complicit, but stressed that the US would like China to “do a better job of policing these sales”. Mr Lawless said the question of origin was less important than who was facilitating the transfer.
The concerns about Chinese weapons follow months of allegations from US officials that Iran is helping attack US troops in Iraq, and more recently Afghanistan, by providing technology for bombs that can destroy Humvees and other heavily armoured US vehicles.
Mr Lawless also expressed concern about North Korea’s missile programme. Last week, Pyongyang tested a new short-range missile that could target not only the US military base at Pyeongtaek but also Seoul. He said North Korea was close to being able to field the solid-fuel, highly mobile rocket.
Mr Lawless said the US military relationship with China was “overall, not bad”, but there was a need for more engagement between the militaries, particularly at the senior levels. “They have been more willing to engage, but it is in millimetres and increments,” he said.
He said the Pentagon was disappointed that China had not given Admiral Michael Mullen, chief of naval operations, the same kind of access that his Chinese counterpart received during a visit to the US. Adm Mullen, who has since been nominated as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, ended up not visiting China.
Mr Lawless also said it was important for China to hold talks with the US about its nuclear forces. A recent Pentagon report concluded Beijing was developing a more survivable nuclear force, including submarine-launched missiles, and mobile land-based missiles.
Since Presidents Hu Jintao and George W. Bush last year discussed increasing military exchanges, China has not responded to an offer for the commander of its strategic nuclear forces to visit US Strategic Command.
“There is a great shortfall in our understanding of China’s intentions,” said Mr Lawless, referring to the overall Chinese military build-up. “When you don’t know why they are doing it, it is pretty damn threatening . . . they leave us no choice but to assume the worst.”
Mr Lawless also suggested that the Pentagon had refused a request from Japan for extensive data on the F-22 fighter jet. Japan wants the data to consider whether the advanced fighter – which under current law cannot be exported – would meet its defence needs.
Mr Lawless said the Pentagon had offered Japan only basic data, which would not require a change in US law.

Une étude de pointe publiée dans la question du 12 octobre 2006 de The Lancet (le plus prestigieux journal médical britannique) concluait il y a un an que 600.000 Irakiens avaient subi une mort violente à cause de la guerre en Irak. C’est-à-dire que pendant les 39 premiers mois de guerre, le taux mensuel de mortalité irakienne s’élevait à environ 15.000.
Ce n’était pas le pire, car le taux de mortalité augmentait en flèche, et pendant la première moitié de 2006 le taux mensuel était environ 30.000, un taux qui sans aucun doute a augmenté davantage durant les féroces combats lié à la poussée [le fameux surge de Bush, NDT] étasunienne actuelle.
Les gouvernements US et britannique ont vite rejeté ces résultats comme « étant de méthodologie défectueuse, » bien que les chercheurs se soient servi des procédures standard pour mesurer la mortalité dans des zones de guerre et de désastre. (Ils ont visité un ensemble aléatoire de maisons et ont demandé aux habitants si quelqu’un dans leur ménage était mort dans les dernières années, enregistré les détails, et inspecté les certificats de décès dans la grande majorité des cas.) les deux gouvernements belligérants n’ont donné aucune raison concrète pour leur rejet des résultats de l’étude, et ils ont ignoré le fait qu’ils avaient commandité des études identiques (entreprises par quelques-uns des mêmes chercheurs) dans d’autres régions de désastres, dont le Darfour et le Kosovo. Cependant, la raison de ce rejet était assez évidente : les résultats étaient simplement trop dévastateurs pour que les gouvernements responsables les reconnaissent. (Secrètement le gouvernement britannique a plus tard admis que c’était « une manière éprouvée et vérifiée pour mesurer la mortalité dans les zones de conflit » ; mais il n’a jamais admis publiquement sa validité).
Les chercheurs de bonne réputation ont reconnu la validité des résultats de l’étude du Lancet sans pratiquement aucun désaccord. Juan Cole, le spécialiste du Moyen-Orient le plus en vue aux USA, les a résumés dans un commentaire particulièrement vif : « La mésaventure US en Irak est responsable en trois ans d’avoir déclenché le massacre de deux fois plus de civils que Saddam est arrivé à en liquider en 25 ans. »
En dépit du consensus des spécialistes, le démenti des gouvernements a été assez efficaces du point de vue de l’instruction du public, et les quelques articles citant l’étude du Lancet la mettent ex æquo avec les réfutations officielles. Un rapport de la BBC, par exemple, mentionnait le chiffre dans un article intitulé « Énorme élévation du nombre de morts en Irak, » et citait longuement la réfutation publique du président Bush, dans laquelle il disait que la méthodologie était « passablement mise en doute, » ajoutant que « six cents mille ou tout ce qui a été estimé est simplement… ce n’est pas crédible. » Suite à ce genre de couverture médiatique, la plupart des étasuniens croient sans doute que le chiffre, donné par Bush en décembre 2005, de 30.000 morts civils irakiens (moins de 10% du total réel) est jusqu’à ce moment la meilleure évaluation des morts irakiens.
Décompte du nombre d’irakiens tués par l’occupation
Ces statistiques choquantes deviennent plus terrifiantes quand nous réalisons que parmi les quelques 600.000 victimes des violences de la guerre irakienne, la plus grande partie ont été tuées par les militaires étasuniens, pas par les voitures bombes ni par les pelotons de la mort, ni par les criminels violents — ni même par toutes ces catégories réunies.
Les interviewers du Lancet ont demandé aux sondés irakiens comment leur êtres chers étaient morts et qui était responsable. Les familles étaient bien au fait de la cause de la mort, indiquant aux envoyés que plus de la moitié (56%) étaient dues aux coups de fusil, deux huitièmes était dus aux voitures bombes (13%) et aux attaques aériennes (13%), et aux ordres (14%) [sans doute les exécutions de prisonniers, NDT]. Seulement 4% étaient dus à des causes inconnues.
Les familles n’étaient pas à même d’identifier qui était responsable. Bien qu’elles savaient, par exemple, que les victimes d’attaques aériennes étaient tuées par l’occupant, et que les victimes des voitures bombes étaient tuées par les insurgés [*], les morts par coup de fusil et par ordre se produisaient souvent lors d’échanges de tirs ou dans des circonstances sans témoin. Elles ne pouvaient donc pas dire avec certitude qui était responsable. Et les interviewers ne remplissaient pas la partie responsable quand les « ménages avaient quelque incertitude » sur la responsabilité de la mort.
Cependant, les résultats sont atterrants pour ceux d’entre nous qui lisons la presse US : pour les morts dont les familles de victimes connaissaient avec certitude l’auteur, les forces US (ou leur « coalition alliée bien disposée ») étaient responsable de 56% des cas. C’est-à-dire que nous pouvons être pleinement assurés du meurtre d’au moins 180.000 Irakiens par la coalition jusqu’à mi 2006. Et qui plus est, nous avons toutes les raisons de penser que les USA sont responsables de leur quote-part (ou de davantage) de morts non imputés. Cela signifie que les USA et leurs alliés peuvent bien avoir tué plus de 330.000 Irakiens en mi 2006.
Le reste peut être attribué aux insurgés, aux criminels, et aux forces irakiennes [*]. Et soyons bien clair sur ce point : les voitures bombes, la source la plus facile à identifier pour les familles de victimes, étaient responsables de 13% des morts, quelques 80.000 personnes, soit 2.000 par mois environ. C’est affreux, mais c’est bien inférieur à la moitié du total étasunien confirmé, et inférieur à un quart du total étasunien probable.
Même si nous travaillons avec le chiffre confirmé le plus bas, de 180.000 morts irakiens causés par la puissance de feu de l’occupant, cela donne depuis le commencement de la guerre une moyenne de plus de 5.000 Irakiens tués chaque mois par les forces US et leurs alliés. Et nous devons nous rappeler que la moyenne globale du taux de mortalité était deux fois plus élevé en 2006, ce qui veut dire que la moyenne étasunienne en 2006 était bien plus de 10.000 par mois, soit plus de 300 irakiens chaque jour, dimanche compris. Avec la poussée qui a commencé en 2007, le chiffre actuel est sans doute encore plus élevé.
Comment se fait-il que nous n’en sachions rien ?
Ces chiffres semblent impossibles à la plupart des étasuniens. Certainement 300 irakiens tués par les USA chaque jour devraient faire maintes fois les gros titres de l’actualité. Néanmoins, les médias électroniques et imprimés ne nous disent absolument pas que les USA tuent tous ces gens. Nous entendons beaucoup au sujet des voitures bombes et des pelotons de la mort, mais peu au sujet des étasuniens tuant des Irakiens, excepté un terroriste anecdotique, et de bien plus anecdotiques histoires d’atrocités.
Comment, alors, les USA accomplissent-ils ce carnage, et pourquoi ne sont-ils pas d’intérêt médiatique ? La réponse se tient dans une autre statistique étonnante libérée par les militaires US et rapportée par la hautement respectable Brookings Institute : Pendant les quatre dernières années, les militaires US ont envoyé quelque chose comme plus de 1000 patrouilles chaque jour dans les environs hostiles, comptant capturer ou tuer des insurgés et des terroristes. (Depuis février, le nombre a grimpé jusqu’à presque 5.000 patrouilles par jour, si nous incluons les troupes irakiennes participant à la poussée US.)
Ces milliers de patrouilles se transforment régulièrement en milliers de morts irakiens parce qu’elles ne vont pas « se balader au soleil » comme il nous semble dans notre imagination. En fait, comme le journaliste indépendant Nir Rosen l’a décrit d’une manière vivante et atroce dans son livre indispensable, Dans le ventre de l’oiseau vert, elles impliquent un genre de brutalité volontaire qui est rapportée parfois seulement par les journalistes traditionnels US intégrés [dans les troupes].
Cette brutalité est tout à fait logique quand nous comprenons le but et le processus de ces patrouilles. Des soldats et des marines US sont envoyés dans les communautés hostiles où pratiquement la population entière soutient l’insurrection. Ils ont souvent une liste d’adresses de suspects ; et leur travail est à d’interroger, d’arrêter ou de tuer les suspects ; et de rechercher dans les maisons des preuves compromettantes, en particulier des armes et des munitions, mais aussi de la littérature, des équipements vidéo, et d’autres articles dont dépend l’insurrection pour ses activités politiques et militaires. Quand elles n’ont pas de listes de suspects, elles mènent des recherches « porte à porte », recherchant des individus ou des signes de comportement suspect.
Dans ce contexte, tout homme en âge de combattre n’est pas un simple suspect, mais un adversaire potentiellement mortel. Il est dit à nos soldats de ne rien laisser au hasard : dans de nombreux cas, par exemple, frapper à une porte a pu provoquer des coups de fusil à travers celle-ci. Leurs instructions sont donc d’utiliser l’effet de surprise chaque fois que la situation semble dangereuse, d’enfoncer les portes, de tirer sur tout ce qui est suspect, et de jeter des grenades dans les pièces ou dans les maisons, où dans tout ce qui peut occasionner de la résistance. S’ils rencontrent une résistance concrète, ils peuvent appeler l’artillerie et/ou la force aérienne plutôt que d’essayer d’envahir un bâtiment.
Voici comment deux civils irakiens ont décrit ces patrouilles au reporter Pepe Escobar de l’Asia Times :
Hussein et Hasan confirment que les étasuniens viennent d’habitude la nuit, parfois le jour, toujours protégés par des hélicoptères. « Parfois ils jettent des bombes dans les maisons, parfois ils arrêtent des gens, parfois ils tirent des missiles »
Si elles ne rencontrent pas de résistance, ces patrouilles peuvent découvrir en gros 30 suspects, ou inspecter plusieurs douzaine de maisons, en un jour de travail. C’est-à-dire, que nos quelques 1000 patrouilles peuvent envahir 30.000 maisons en un seul jour. Mais si un IED [dispositif explosif improvisé, NDT] explose sous leur Humvee ou si un tireur isolé proche leur tire dessus, alors leur boulot est de trouver, capturer, ou tuer l’auteur de l’attaque. Les insurgés irakiens déclenchent souvent des IED et provoquent des échanges de tirs, afin de retarder les patrouilles pour empêcher de force les soldats d’entrer à 30 dans les maisons, d’aborder violemment leurs résidants, et peut-être de battre, d’arrêter, ou d’humilier simplement les résidants.
Les batailles déclenchées par les IED et les attaques de tireurs isolés impliquent presque toujours les bâtiments entourant l’incident, où se mettent à l’abri les insurgés pour éviter la contre-attaque US. Les étasuniens se précipitent donc dans ces bâtiments où sont suspectés se cacher les auteurs, avec tous les dangers que ça comporte de tuer les autres personnes. Les règles de combat des soldats incluent la volonté d’éviter de tuer les civils, et il y a de nombreuses notes de restrictions au cas où les civils sont manifestement dans la ligne de feu. Mais aux trousses d’un malfaiteur, leurs règles de combat indiquent clairement que capturer ou tuer les insurgés prend le pas sur la sécurité civile.
Il semble que ce soit assez maîtrisé, et incapable de produire les statistiques documentées par l’étude du Lancet. Mais le total des patrouilles US, 1000 par jour, et le total des confrontations dans les maisons des gens, les réponses aux tireurs isolés et aux attaques d’IED, et les échanges de tirs pour sécuriser s’additionnent jusqu’à donner un massacre de masse.
La brutalité cumulée de ces milliers de patrouilles peut être déduite de la récente investigation sur des soupçons de crimes de guerre commis à Haditha le 19 novembre 2005. L’enquête cherche à établir si les marines ont délibérément assassiné 24 civils, incluant dix-neuf femmes désarmées, des enfants et des hommes âgés, dans une seule chambre, apparemment en châtiment pour la mort d’un de leurs camarades plus tôt dans la journée. Ces accusations horribles ont donné un intérêt médiatique à l’incident et activé l’enquête.
Mais c’est la version de la défense qui rend Haditha utile pour comprendre l’explication du rôle des patrouilles dans les centaines de milliers de morts irakiens. Le premier lieutenant William T. Kallop, l’officier le plus haut gradé à Haditha ce jour-là, a dit à l’audience militaire qu’il avait ordonné à la patrouille de « nettoyer une maison irakienne d’Haditha après qu’une bombe en bord de route ait tué un marine » plus tôt dans la journée. Plus tard, après l’échange de tirs que cette action a provoqué, il est allé inspecter la maison et a été choqué de découvrir que seuls des civils avaient été tués :
Il a inspecté l’une des maisons avec un caporal des marines, Hector Salinas, et trouvé les femmes, les enfants et les hommes âgés qui avaient été tués quand les marine ont jeté une grenade dans la salle.
Le lieutenant Kallop a témoigné avoir demandé à haute voix : « Que diable est-il arrivé, pourquoi n’y a-t-il aucun insurgé ici ? » J’ai jeté un coup d’œil au caporal Salinas, et il a regardé exactement aussi choqué que moi.
Il est important de garder à l’esprit que le lieutenant Kallop n’aurait pas été choqué s’il y avait eu un ou plusieurs insurgés parmi les morts. Ce qui a rendu la situation problématique était que tous morts étaient manifestement des civils, et ça présentait la possibilité qu’ils n’étaient pas aux trousses d’un combattant ennemi.
Plus tard, cependant, le lieutenant Kallop a décidé que même cette situation n’impliquait pas une mauvaise conduite de la part de ses troupes, après interrogatoire du sergent-chef Frank D. Wuterich, qui menait la patrouille et commandait l’action militaire :
Le sergent Wuterich lui a dit qu’ils avaient tué les gens dans cette maison après s’être approchés d’une de ses porte et avoir entendu le bruit métallique distinct de l’armement d’une AK-47.
J’ai pensé à ce qui était dans le règlement de combat parce que le chef de peloton pensait qu’il allait donner un coup de pied dans la porte et trouver une mitrailleuse, a dit le lieutenant Kallop.
Selon Kallop, les soldats suivaient donc les règles de combat parce que si le chef de peloton « pensait » qu’ils allaient être attaqués (à cause de la reconnaissance d’un bruit à travers la porte fermée), il était pleinement autorisé et justifié d’utiliser la force meurtrière de la patrouille (une grenade à main dans ce cas), assez pour tuer tous les gens blottis dans l’appartement.
Une distinction cruciale est à faire avec l’intentionnalité. Le premier lieutenant Max D. Frank, envoyé pour étudier l’incident un peu plus tard, a expliqué cette logique : « Ce qui est arrivé est regrettable, Monsieur, » a dit le lieutenant Frank au procureur des marines, le lieutenant colonel Sean Sullivan, « mais je n’ai aucune raison de croire qu’ils l’ont fait à dessein. »
Traduit, ça signifie que tant que les soldats ont sincèrement cru que leur attaque pourrait capturer ou tuer un insurgé armé qui pouvait les attaquer, les règles de combat justifiaient leur action et ils étaient donc innocents de tout crime.
Noter ici que d’autres solutions de rechange n’ont pas été considérées. Les soldats auraient pu décider qu’il y avait de fortes chances de blesser des civils dans cette situation, et donc auraient pu battre en retraite sans poursuivre l’insurgé suspecté. Cela lui aurait permis de partir, mais aurait protégé les habitants de la maison. Cette option n’a pas été considérée, bien que bon nombre d’entre nous sentons que laisser s’échapper deux ou trois insurgés (dans une ville qui en est pleine) serait plus acceptable que de risquer (et en fin de compte d’abréger) la vie de 19 civils [5 victimes sont passées à l'as ? NDT].
Plus tard à l’audience, le major général Richard Huck, l’officier commandant responsable des marines à Haditha, a souligné ces règles de combat en termes plus généraux, « et a aussi ignoré l’option impensable de laisser partir les insurgés » quand il a expliqué pourquoi il n’avait pas ordonné d’enquête sur les morts :
C’est arrivé lors d’une opération de combat et il n’est pas rare que des civils meurent dans de telles circonstances. J’ai vu en imagination le feu des tirs insurgés, j’ai vu le feu de la Kilo Company, « Huck a témoigné, par l’intermédiaire du lien vidéo du Pentagone, là où il est commandant adjoint assistant des plans, politiques et opérations. Pour le général Huck, et pour d’autres commandants en Irak, dès que « le feu des insurgés ou même la menace du feu des insurgés » intervient dans le tableau (et il existait certainement plus tôt, quand le soldat étasunien a été tué), alors les actions rapportées par les marines dans cette maison d’Haditha étaient non seulement légitimes (s’ils les ont rapportées honnêtement), mais exemplaire. Elles répondaient de manière appropriée à une situation de champ de bataille, et la mort de « 15 personnes neutres » n’est « pas rare » dans ces circonstances.
Gardons à l’esprit, ensuite, que les USA entreprennent quelques 1000 patrouilles chaque jour, et ce nombre s’est élevé récemment à plus de 5000 (si nous comptons aussi les patrouilles militaires irakiennes). Ça vaut la peine d’enregistrer comment sont rapportés ces événements dans la presse étasunienne, quand ils sont signalés. Ici, par exemple, il y a un récit de l’Associated Press sur des patrouilles US/britanniques dans la province de Maysan, un bastion de l’armée du Mahdi :

Lors de l’audience au sujet d’Haditha, l’un des enquêteurs a abordé la plus large question qui émerge du sacrifice de tant de civils à la cause de la chasse et de la capture des insurgés en Irak. Free $50,000 Practice AccountPARIS (Reuters) – A senior French politician, now a minister in President Nicolas Sarkozy’s government, suggested last year that U.S. President George W. Bush might have been behind the September 11, 2001 attacks, according to a website.
The www.ReOpen911.info website, which promotes September 11 conspiracy theories, has posted a video clip of French Housing Minister Christine Boutin appearing to question that Osama bin Laden’s al Qaeda group orchestrated the attacks. Boutin’s office sought to play down the remarks.
Asked in an interview last November, before she became minister, whether she thought Bush might be behind the attacks, Boutin says: “I think it is possible. I think it is possible.”
Boutin backs her assertion by pointing to the large number of people who visit websites that challenge the official line over the September 11 strikes against U.S. cities.
“I know that the websites that speak of this problem are websites that have the highest number of visits … And I tell myself that this expression of the masses and of the people cannot be without any truth.”
Boutin’s office sought to play down the remarks, saying that later in the same interview she says: “I’m not telling you that I adhere to that position.” This comment does not appear on the video clip on ReOpen911.
Numerous other websites have also posted the clip in recent days and the story has started to seep into the mainstream media.
“Christine Boutin snared by her controversial suggestions about September 11,” Le Monde newspaper said in a headline.
Liberation newspaper on Saturday quoted Boutin’s spokesman Christian Dupont as saying that she had not wanted to appear pro or anti-Bush at a time when Sarkozy was being branded a “U.S. poodle” after meeting the president in Washington.
“And then she is not the foreign minister,” Dupont added
France appears to be particularly fertile ground for conspiracy theories. In 2002, a book that claimed that no airliner hit the U.S. Pentagon in the September 11 attacks topped the French bestseller lists.
However, the French are not alone in their skepticism.
According to a Scripps Howard/Ohio University poll carried out last July, more than one-third of Americans suspect U.S. officials helped in the September 11 attacks or took no action to stop them so the United States could later go to war.
The U.S. State Department has rejected these accusations.
Almost 3,000 people died when hijackers crashed planes into New York, Washington and Pennsylvania.

If they are not released after one week (ie today, 7th July) they will certainly become labelled as terrorists, whether or not they have done anything. Grab a six-pack and sit in the comfortable chair. I’m so pissed. It’s not you I’m mad at, it’s the hologram you’re always writing about, that imaginary world created by the media that controls our actions and directs our thoughts. I usually ignore the hologram by rarely turning on the television and only reading news on websites that attempt to be reasonable. But though I know the hologram is all lies, I need to go to it now because I know the people being lied about and there is no other source of information.
My husband is Palestinian and I lived in Jordan in 1995-96. This week I heard that two kids from the high school where I taught there (a school for gifted students funded by Queen Noor) are in jail in England for those (I snort and sneer and roll my eyes) “failed terror attacks” last week. And they didn’t do anything, Joe. They are a young couple with a baby son, and everyone who knows or ever knew them agrees they could never harm another human being.
But it’s not only that. It’s that there is no evidence at all. Just none. The British government hasn’t even tried to make a case or suggest a motive.
That’s where the hologram comes in. I always understood what you meant by the term, but I didn’t appreciate all of its aspects until now. It’s a hologram because you see it, but it isn’t real. You see police cars surrounded the car of a “terror suspect” and are told he led the police on a chase.
When you learn he is a neurosurgeon whose wife and baby were in the car with him, you might think he probably just pulled over when the police seemed to want him to, but only if you were still capable of using your own brain.
After all, his name is Mohammed and his wife wears a headscarf, and the hologram has already shown us over and over what comes of that sort of thing. So maybe you’ll just ignore what your brain was trying to say — that neurosurgeons have a lot invested in their careers and no time for hobbies like blowing stuff up, and young mothers are fiercely protective of their babies, and therefore avoid hazardous things like having their husbands become terrorists and getting in car chases with the police.
The hologram analogy also works in the way the media are so hard to ignore. Even when you make a point of ignoring them, they are always there, flickering around the edges, burning impressions you can’t quite get rid of. When my sister-in-law (head of the English department at their high school back then, an English literature professor in a university now) first emailed me the news story, I thought, “How ridiculous to think of Marwa or Mohammed involved in this!” After a few days of staring into the hologram searching for information, I had to ask “Do I really know what I know? Or could the hologram be right?” Not that there was any evidence offered. There was just a bunch of comments by neighbors about his beard and her “burqa” and the mailman saying they usually didn’t get lots of packages, but then for a while they got some packages.
My common sense said, “Ooh, spooky stuff. Maybe even baby clothes.” But it was all so tidy and comfortable in that TV/mainstream news site world. I almost wanted to be lulled into stupidly fearing the bad doctor and his mysterious wife, but my memories of the actual Marwa and Mohammed kept getting in the way. It would have been like an episode of “24″ if only the nice young doctor could go ahead and turn into a mad bomber in my imagination. But because I once knew him, he just kept turning back into a really sweet, polite 15-year-old who was always clowning with his friends. I specifically remember thinking they were like a pile of puppies, and that memory shuts down the hologram for a bit until it blinks back on after a while. And Marwa, who I remember even more clearly, was such an intelligent, kind, delightful person that her sweetness makes me cry every time I see it radiating from a picture of her on the television or computer screen.
Why can’t everyone else see it?
Meanwhile, though no evidence of guilt has been offered, the holo-discussion zooms ahead. How do we keep these monsters out?
Most commentators recommend increasing security and letting fewer aliens in, but even the well-meaning ones, who say, “They hate us because we’ve done awful things” are missing something. “They” may or may not hate “us”, but no case has been made that “they” did anything about it, at least not in this instance. And the British have an embarrassing record of arresting totally innocent people in cases like these.
The facts known about Mohammed Asha and his wife, Marwa Da’ana, are entirely positive. Well-educated, hard-working, etc. The ugly things said about them are not facts, nor are they backed up by facts. A young couple has been separated from each other and from their son, imprisoned without charges in a foreign country far from their friends and relatives.
How do you think the people close to them feel? No one has heard anything of them. And already, now that their carefully constructed future has been smashed, that hologram has shut down and everyone turns to the others flickering on elsewhere.

‘Deep integration’ comes out of shadows

If the machinations going on in this country regarding so-called “deep integration” were instead a communist conspiracy to take over the country (you will, of course, have to try hard to imagine this) the news media would be blaring the story.
Pundits would pontificate, editorialists would erupt, security forces would be unleashed.
Instead, a virtual conspiracy to make the country disappear through assimilation into the U.S. gets barely a mention.
But news of the scheme — formally called the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (SPP) — is finally breaking out of the secret chambers of the ruling elite and the federal government. This is both good news and bad. It’s good that ordinary citizens are finally getting a glimpse of the betrayal of their country. The news is bad because it reflects just how much of this scheme is already being implemented.
Given the meetings of CEOs and politicians to advance the scheme politically, as well as all that must go into its actual implementation, there is simply too much activity to keep secret.
Ten dots to connect
Here are 10 developments in the plan to disappear Canada.
1) Pesticides ‘harmonized.’ The most thoroughly reported story (though even this did not go much beyond the CanWest chain) was the revelation that Canada was about to “harmonize” its regulations, setting limits for pesticide residue on fruits and vegetables. In 40 per cent of the cases, the U.S. allows for higher levels. Richard Aucoin, chief registrar of the Pest Management Regulatory Agency, which sets Canada’s pesticide levels, said that Canada’s higher levels were a “trade irritant.”
The downgrading of health protection had been a NAFTA initiative, but is being “fast-tracked” as part of the Security and Prosperity Partnership. This is just the tip of the iceberg. Some 300 regulatory regimes are currently going through the same process.
2) Tory tirade. The next story that broke through the wall of media silence reported on the paranoid reaction of the Harper Conservatives to any criticism of the SPP. The occasion was hearings of the Commons International Trade Committee into the SPP, forced by the NDP.
Gordon Laxer, head of Alberta’s Parkland Institute, was testifying on the energy implications of the SPP, warning that eastern Canada could end up “freezing in the dark.” He had barely started when the chair of the committee, Conservative MP Leon Benoit, demanded that Laxer halt his “irrelevant” testimony. The Committee members overruled Benoit — who promptly (and illegally) adjourned the meeting and stomped out. The NDP and Liberal members nonetheless continued without him.
3) Council of corporate power. The SPP initiative began in earnest back in 2002 with the Canadian Council of Chief Executives (formerly the BCNI), the most powerful corporate body in the country. It continues it leadership role, but does not promote the scheme just in its own name. It instead has helped create several supportive bodies that now help drive the agenda. Included in these are the North American Competitive Council (NACC), which includes CEOs of the largest North American corporations, and which institutionalizes the exclusively corporate nature of the agreement. The NACC is the only advisory group to the three NAFTA/SPP governments.
4) Secretive summit. The NACC at least is public. But much of what happens in building the elite consensus for deep integration is done in absolute secrecy or very privately, away from the prying eyes of the media. The most secretive of these was held last year from Sept. 12 to 14, in Banff Springs. As The Tyee reported, the gathering was sponsored by something called the North American Forum* and it was attended by some of the most powerful members of the North American ruling elite.
Attendees, according to a leaked list that could not be confirmed, included Donald Rumsfeld, George Schultz (former U.S. Secretary of State), General Rick Hillier, Defence Minister Gordon O’Connor and Minister of Public Safety Stockwell Day. The media was not informed of the meeting and it was first revealed by the weekly Banff Crag & Canyon.
Stockwell Day refused to even confirm he was there, but said that even if he was, it was a “private” meeting that he would not comment on. There is no better indication that these meetings, and the SPP itself, constitute a parallel governing structure — unaccountable to any democratic institution or the public.
5) ‘No fly’ coordination. Canada will have its own “no-fly” list just like our U.S. “partner.”
As the Council of Canadians pointed out: “The no-fly list is very much a Security and Prosperity Partnership initiative. ‘The SPP Report to Leaders, August 2006′ outlines 105 SPP initiatives. Initiative #93 states, ‘Develop, test, evaluate and implement a plan to establish comparable aviation passenger screening, and the screening of baggage and air cargo (for North America).’”
Canada’s privacy commissioner Jennifer Stoddart has raised a number of concerns about the plan including the fact that the list will be shared with the U.S., that “false positives” are a virtual certainty, and that there is no evidence put forward by the government that the list will improve airline security.
6) Bye, bye Canadian dollar? David Dodge, the head of the Bank of Canada, told a Chicago audience that a single currency for North America “is possible.” That would see a big chunk of Canadian sovereignty and the ability to guide the economy through monetary policy go out the window. It’s not the first time Dodge has mused about abandoning the Canadian dollar – or deep integration.
7) Water and oil giveaways. The deep integrationists clearly see Canadian water as a North American resource, not a Canadian resource. At yet another very private meeting, held in Calgary on April 27th under the auspices of yet another forum, it was made clear that water is on the table for negotiation.
Discussion of bulk “water transfers” and diversions took place at a Calgary meeting of the North American Future 2025 Project (partly funded by the U.S. government). The meeting based its deliberations on the false notion that Canada has 20 per cent of the world’s fresh water. Actual available supply amounts to only around six per cent — about the same as has the U.S.
The water (and environment) meeting was preceded by another on April 26th talking about “North American” energy. The beneficiary of these discussions is pretty clear when you realize Canada has no national energy policy. We are the only energy exporting country in the world without a one.
Gordon Laxer told the Parliamentary committee: “The National Energy Board wrote me on April 12: ‘Unfortunately, the NEB has not undertaken any studies on security of supply.’” He was also told by the NEB that Canada does not maintain a 90 day energy reserve as other developed nations do. As Laxer points out, “Canada may be a net exporter, but it still imports 40 per cent of its oil — 850,000 barrels per day — to meet 90 per cent of Atlantic Canada’s and Quebec’s needs, and 40 per cent of Ontario’s.”
Canada exports 63 per cent of its oil production and 56 per cent of its natural gas, percentages that can never decrease under NAFTA.
8) NAFTA Superhighway. State governments in the U.S. are becoming increasingly alarmed at the prospects of deep integration. Earlier this year, Idaho became the first state to pass a legislative resolution directing the U.S. Congress to drop out of the SPP, which is referred to as the North American Union amongst U.S. opponents. Thirteen states in addition to Idaho are calling on Congress to abandon the SPP: Georgia, Arizona, Missouri, Illinois, Oregon, Montana, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Utah, South Dakota, Tennessee, Washington and Virginia.
Part of the opposition is focused on plans for a so-called NAFTA Superhighway: actually a corridor several hundred metres wide including rail lines, freeways and pipelines from Mexico to the Canadian border. There is a growing grass roots movement against the SPP in the U.S., but led by the right over the issue of compromising American sovereignty.
9) Trade, Investment and Labour Mobility Agreement (TILMA). While U.S. states, concerned about state rights under an unaccountable “North American Union,” are organizing against the scheme, Canadian provinces are either blithely unaware or knowingly complicit in the deal. More Canadians may be aware of TILMA — the investors’ rights agreement between B.C. and Albert — than they are about the SPP, but in reality they are one and the same.
TILMA is major piece of the deep integration, deregulation imperative and fits hand in glove with the SPP. There is a similar, though more informal, process evolving in the Atlantic provinces, called “Atlantica.” And B.C. is now pushing the so-called Gateway Initiative, a kind of regional superhighway project that will see huge and environmentally disastrous expansion of ports, highways and pipelines to further supply the U.S.’s insatiable demand for resources and cheap Asian goods.
10) The next SPP summit. The third leaders summit on the SPP will take place this August 21-22nd in Montebello, Quebec, not far from Ottawa. By the time it does many more Canadian will be aware of it.
Part of the reason that news of the SPP/deep integration issue is finally seeing the light of day is that opposition is growing and groups fighting the SPP are having an impact. The Council of Canadians, the CLC and the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives held an SPP teach-in in Ottawa last month and many civil society groups are now taking deep integration to their members. Demonstrations are planned for the summit. The NDP continues to press the government on SPP secrecy and the Green Party’s Elizabeth May has said deep integration will be a focus of the party’s election platform.
It is hard to think of any other issue in modern Canadian history, especially one that will literally determine whether the country survives or not, that has taken so long to get public attention. I first wrote about it September, 2002.
By the time the SPP summit has come and gone and the fall political season begins, deep integration, the most treacherous plan for the country yet devised by Bay Street, will be increasingly exposed.
And by the next election, we could see a repeat of the great “free trade” election of 1988. This time we have to win.

Musharraf plane is ‘fired on’
Two guns were reportedly found on a rooftop close
to the military air base in Rawalpindi
Pakistan’s president has reportedly been the target of an assassination attempt at a military air base in Rawalpindi.
Security officials told Al Jazeera on Friday that Pervez Musharraf’s aircraft was fired on shortly after it took off.
But Major General Waheed Arshad, Pakistan’s military spokesman, denied that the aircraft was targeted.
“It was not related to the president,” he said, referring to gunfire heard around the base.
Al Jazeera obtained pictures of what appears to be a large gun or anti-aircraft weapon found on a nearby rooftop by police.
Kamal Shah, Pakistan’s interior secretary, told the AFP news agency that police had surrounded a house and recovered a 12.7mm anti-aircraft gun and a 7.62mm machinegun modified for the same purpose from the roof.
Bullet marks
He said the machinegun had been fired and said bullet marks had only been found on the wall, “which would suggest it was accidentally fired, forcing the suspects to flee and leave behind the weaponry.”

But intelligence officials insisted that Musharraf was the target and that the couple who rented the house had fled since the attack.
“It was an unsuccessful effort by miscreants to target the president’s plane,” a senior security official told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity
The guns were “similar to those used by the Taliban in Afghanistan,” another official said.
Musharraf was flying from the Chaklala military base to the southern provinces of Sindh and Baluchistan to visit people affected by recent floods, the military said in a statement.
He has survived several attempts on his life since he took power in a military coup in 1999. In December 2003, Musharraf escaped a bomb blast which destroyed a bridge minutes after his motorcade had passed and a suicide truck bomb attack.
Elsewhere in Pakistan, up to five soldiers were killed when a suicide bomber on a bicycle struck a military convoy in Chakdarra, about 200km north of Peshawar, the capital of North West Frontier Province, officials said.

À travers le pays, les militaires US n’arrivent plus à atteindre leurs objectifs de recrutement. Pour attaquer ce problème, le Pentagone a rapidement déployé des programmes conçus pour convaincre les jeunes à s’engager. Il dépense maintenant 3,4 milliards de dollars par an, soit une moyenne de 14.000 dollar par nouvelle recrue. En utilisant des campagnes de marketing tapageuses, des spots télévisés, et en développant même ses propres jeux vidéo, l’armée bombarde les jeunes d’images qui glorifient les armes et la violence. Les recruteurs se servent de stratégies de relations publiques raffinées : ils dressent leur boutique dans les centres commerciaux, dans les cinémas, dans les événements sportifs, et dans les concerts, et ils roulent en ville dans des Humvees décorés qui braillent de la musique populaire au milieu des adolescents.
La présence militaire dans les écoles publiques de notre nation se développe à une vitesse alarmante. Les établissements pédagogiques des quartiers ouvriers sont les principales cibles des recruteurs militaires, qui marchent l’air hautain en particulier dans les couloirs des écoles professionnelles. Les militaires considèrent les étudiants comme des cibles faciles qui peuvent être amenées à s’inscrire contre une promesse de formation à une carrière, d’argent pour l’université, de voyages gratuits, et d’aventure. Les recruteurs sont des experts en relations publiques ; comme les trafiquants de drogue et les représentants des compagnies de tabac, ils commercialisent un produit dangereux avec des effets secondaires qu’ils ne veulent pas que leurs clients potentiels sachent.
Alors que les recruteurs disent aux étudiants qu’ils peuvent recevoir 70.000 dollars pour l’université à travers la Loi GI Montgomery, la paie moyenne des vétérans est de seulement 2.151 dollars. Pour avoir droit aux avantages pédagogiques, les soldats doivent s’engager pour trois ans de service actif et doivent aussi verser aux militaires une « caution » perdue de 100 dollars par mois pendant un an. En considérant que seulement 43% des soldats s’engageant dans le programme reçoivent quelque argent, la majorité qui recherche une aide financière à travers la Loi GI finit en réalité par payer 1.200 dollars aux militaires sans rien obtenir en retour. Et un soldat qui obtient une paie moyenne de 2.151 dollars en reçoit seulement 951 réellement au delà de sa propre contribution. Sur l’ensemble des recrues, seulement 15% sont diplômées.
Les connaissances apprises chez les militaires sont souvent inutiles dans le civil, et de nombreuses personnes ont besoin d’un recyclage après avoir quitté les forces armées. Les vétérans de la classe d’âge des 20 à 34 ans ont un taux de chômage plus élevé que les non vétérans, et ceux qui sont employés gagnent typiquement 12% à 15% de moins. La plupart des gens seraient étonnés d’apprendre que les vétérans composent un tiers de la totalité des SDF, et la moitié de tous les SDF masculins. Tandis que chez les militaires, 65% des engagés déclarent être mécontents de leurs boulot actuel.
Il existe diverses autres statistiques moins que flatteuses sur les militaires que les recruteurs ne mentionnent pas. Les gens de couleur représentent 1/3 de l’ensemble du personnel enrôlé mais seulement 1/8 des officiers. Presque 90% des femmes en rapport avec les militaires sont harcelées sexuellement, et 1/3 signalent avoir été violées. En addition aux plus de 3.500 hommes et femmes morts dans la guerre actuelle en Irak [plus de 20.000 morts en réalité, NDT], des dizaines de milliers ont été blessés et rentrent chez eux avec des dommages traumatiques cervicaux, des amputations, des désordres de stress post-traumatique, et d’autres graves maladies liées à l’exposition à l’uranium appauvri utilisé dans les munitions.
Les recruteurs sont sous l’énorme pression d’avoir à remplir leur quota de deux recrues par mois, qui exige d’entrer en contact avec 120 recrues potentielles en moyenne. Puisque moins de 10% de toutes les recrues trouvent elles-mêmes un emploi militaire, les recruteurs font face à la tâche impressionnante d’aller chercher la grande majorité d’entre elles. Ainsi il n’est pas surprenant que la tactique de recrutement fondamentale est une combinaison de tromperies et d’omissions. Un recruteur récemment interviewé par le Boston Globe a décrit son travail : « Vous devez convaincre ces petits punks de faire quelque chose… Je me dis que je peux vendre ça, je peux vendre n’importe quoi. » D’après le propre décompte de l’armée, il y avait 320 cas corroborés de ce qui est appelé des incorrections de recrutement en 2004, plus de 199 en 1999, et 213 en 2002. Les infractions varient de la menace et de la contrainte à la promesse mensongère que les demandeurs ne seront pas envoyés en Irak. Le nombre de ceux ayant fait l’objet d’une enquête s’élevait à 1.118 en 2004, soit presque un recruteur sur cinq, et à plus de 913 en 2002, soit un sur huit. Un recruteur interviewé par le New York Times a dit le meilleurs, « Le problème est que personne ne veut nous rejoindre et nous devons jouer vite et relâcher les règlements pour nous en tirer. »
La mauvaise éducation militaire
Le manuel militaire des recruteurs dans les écoles secondaires nous propose une vitrine de leurs stratégies. Il suggère que les recruteurs fassent eux-mêmes le « nécessaire » dans les écoles et que, en plus de la profusion de données sur les étudiants que leur fournissent actuellement les cadres scolaires, les recruteurs devrait avoir un accès non officiel à des sources d’informations comme les annuaires d’étudiants. En outre, déclarant qu’il n’est « que naturel qu’une recrue potentielle résiste, » le manuel suggère des manières de détourner les objections et énumère des techniques pour conclure l’affaire, telle que relever le défi. Il conseille que le relevé de défi marche mieux avec les jeunes hommes, et que « vous devez faire attention à la manière dont vous l’utilisez. Vous devez être en termes amicaux avec votre éventuel client, ou ça pourrait avoir des retours de flammes. Quand vous avez du mal à conclure, en particulier quand l’intérêt de l’éventuel client semble s’affaiblir, défiez son moi en suggérant que la formation de base puisse être trop difficile pour lui et qu’il pourrait être incapable de la passer. Ensuite, s’il accepte votre défi, vous aurez fait un pas de géant pour obtenir qu’il s’engage. »
Malgré le fait que la carrière militaire soit hasardeuse pour l’éducation des jeunes et leur future carrière – sans mentionner pour leur vie — la No Child Left Behind Act [loi scolaire Aucun Enfant Oublié, impulsée en 2001 par les républicains et Bush, NDT] facilite pour les militaires l’accès direct aux étudiants. La Loi contient une disposition peu connue qui menace de confisquer le financement fédéral si une école refuse de remettre des informations personnelles sur ses étudiants aux militaires, incluant les noms, adresses, et numéros de téléphone. Avant que la loi entre en vigueur, 1/3 des écoles secondaires du pays entier trouvaient déplacé de distribuer ces informations aux recruteurs. La loi contraint maintenant les écoles à donner aux militaires un accès sans réserve. Par la loi, les parents peuvent demander de garder privées les informations sur leurs enfants, pourtant aucun système en place n’informe les parents ou les étudiants de ces droits, ainsi beaucoup l’ignorent.
Le Pentagone obtient aussi des informations sur les étudiants en appliquant son test Armed Service Vocational Aptitude Battery. Ce test est proposé aux écoles gratuitement, et ensuite il est commercialisé aux étudiants comme une aide pour choisir entre diverses carrières militaires et civiles, il est conçu à l’origine pour évaluer les qualifications militaires des gens. Quand un étudiant passe le test, ses informations, relations et score au test, sont automatiquement envoyées aux recruteurs, qui peuvent les utiliser comme bon leur semble.
Le JROTC et les soldats adolescents
Les militaires ont une autre manière majeure pour attirer les jeunes grâce au programme Junior Reserves Officer Training Corps (JROTC), que le Pentagone a développé avec enthousiasme depuis le début des années 90. Dans tout le pays, 500.000 étudiants, de 14 ans et plus, sont actuellement enrôlés dans le programme JROTC. Son objectif prétendu est de « motiver les jeunes à être de meilleurs citoyens » en « enseignant aux étudiants des écoles secondaires les valeurs de citoyenneté, de leadership, de service à la communauté, de responsabilité personnelle, et de sens de l’exploit, tout en leur inculquant l’amour-propre, le travail en équipe, et l’autodiscipline. » Les adolescents apprennent dans le programme des exercices et une discipline de style militaire. Toutes les recrues du JROTC s’exercent avec des armes et étudient l’histoire militaire, et 90% d’entre elles s’entraînent à l’usage des canons. L’US Army insiste sur le fait que le JROTC n’est pas un outil de recrutement ou un truc des relations publiques conçu pour donner une meilleure image des militaires, pourtant la moitié des diplômés du JROTC rejoignent les militaires. Chez ceux-ci, un tiers seulement suivent un programme d’étude plus élevé. William Cohen, le secrétaire de la Défense dans l’administration Clinton, a carrément indiqué au Congrès en février 2000 que le JROTC est « l’un des meilleurs dispositifs de recrutement dont nous pouvons disposer. »
Au début le gouvernement a établi le JROTC comme une classe facultative d’école secondaire. Cependant, de nombreuses écoles ont commencé à inscrire automatiquement les étudiants au programme. La loi fédérale exige qu’au moins 100 étudiants, ou 10% du corps estudiantin, soient inscrits à chaque unité du JROTC pour maintenir le programme dans l’école. Pour ne pas arrêter, les cadres scolaires peuvent donc se sentir obligés de se plier, les règles concernant la nature volontaire du programme rendant difficile pour les étudiants de trouver des cours alternatifs. Une unité JROTC coûte en moyenne 75.000 dollars à une école, ce qui draine les ressources des autres activités scolaires et des programmes essentiels.
Les cadres scolaires pensent souvent au JROTC comme à une bonne alternative pour les étudiants qui n’excellent pas dans l’enseignement général ou qui ont des problèmes comportementaux, mais les résultats obtenus par le JROTC comme aide à la jeunesse à risque est loin de la perfection. Depuis 1990, de nombreux incidents violents ont impliqué des recrues du JROTC. Des meurtres, des activités de gangs, des voies de faits sexuels, et de violents bizutages ont été liés aux instructeurs, aux membres, et aux diplômés du JROTC. Plutôt qu’enseigner aux étudiants des alternatives pacifiques, le JROTC promeut la violence en enseignant aux étudiants à se servir d’armes et en les faisant participer à des exercices abrutissants qui les dressent à suivre les ordres sans hésitation ni pensée.
Contre le recrutement
En réponse à la présence militaire grandissante dans toutes les écoles du pays, des démarches anti-recrutement se sont aussi développées. En 1986, la 9ème Circuit Court of Appeals a statué que, sous les Premiers et Quatorzièmes Amendements, les écoles créant un forum pour les partisans des militaires doivent aussi fournir un accès égal à ceux qui ont un point de vue opposé. Les programmes contre le recrutement aident les étudiants à comprendre les véritables implications du service militaire et les informent sur les solutions alternatives à l’engagement militaire et sur les manières de se libérer une fois qu’on est déjà inscrit.
La majorité des jeunes qui rejoignent les militaires s’engagent à travers le Delayed Entry ¨Program, qui leur accorde jusqu’à un an [de délai] avant de devoir se présenter à la formation du service actif. Plusieurs de ces recrues ignorent avoir l’option de délaisser les militaires pendant cette période de temps avant que débute la formation. Tout ce qu’elles doivent faire est d’écrire une lettre demandant la séparation qui explique entièrement les raisons les rendant incapables ou peu disposées à servir. Alors que les militaires définissent des catégories spécifiques de séparation, presque toutes les raisons sont acceptables si la recrue déclare clairement qu’elle n’est plus intéressée à servir chez les militaires.
Se battre contre la conscription
Pour réduire les chances d’être choisi pendant une conscription, il y a des choses que les jeunes peuvent faire. Au moment de ses 18 ans, tout homme est censé s’inscrire au Service Sélectif et rejoindre le groupe de ses pairs prêts à la conscription. Toutefois, ils peut en réalité attendre jusqu’à son 26ème anniversaire avant de se faire enregistrer. Alors que le gouvernement fédéral menace d’une amende de 250.000 dollars et d’un maximum de cinq ans de prison ceux qui ne s’enregistrent pas, il n’y a aucun cas récent connu que ce soit imposé. Les sanctions pénales d’État présentent des variations et comportent un déni pour accès aux établissements d’enseignement supérieur et aux universités, un déni pour emploi d’État et un déni pour bourse estudiantine. Les États commencent aussi à rattacher le permis de conduire à l’enregistrement au Service Sélectif.
En remplissant le formulaire du Service Sélectif, la personne qui se fait enregistrer a l’option de se faire inscrire comme objecteur de conscience (CO). Un CO écrit qu’étant totalement opposé à la guerre, il ne peut concevoir de situation où il serait volontaire ou capable de porter atteinte à la vie d’un autre humain. Cette déclaration peut être écrite dans les marges du formulaire du Service Sélectif et/ou dans une lettre séparée. Il devrait faire une copie pour ses dossiers, la placer sous enveloppe scellée, se l’expédier à lui-même, et la garder, avec sa documentation personnelle supplémentaire qui montre qu’il est contre la guerre (par exemple, des articles de journaux, des lettres, des poésies, et des choses du même style).
En plus d’avoir une compréhension complète des contradictions entre ce que disent les recruteurs sur le service militaire et la réalité, il est conseillé aux jeunes de prendre quelques mesures préventives en rencontrant les recruteurs. Ils devraient prendre un membre de famille et/ou un allié de confiance comme témoin et avocat et leur faire lire l’accord d’engagement. Les recrues potentielles devraient toujours poser des questions sur les parties de l’accord qu’elles ne comprennent pas et garder une copie pour leurs dossiers. Elles devraient être sincères sur leur dossier de police et leur état médical et ne devrait pas permettre aux recruteurs de falsifier les documents en leur nom. Elles devraient savoir que tout au sujet de leur contrat de service est négociable mais que les militaires peuvent annuler tout contrat dans les moments de crise (comme c’est le cas avec les ordres Stop Loss). Les engagés devrait aussi se rendre compte que les promesses orales sont sans valeur et ils devrait exiger du recruteur qu’il mettre par écrit toutes ses promesses.
Les mouvements pacifistes
Le militarisme dans nos écoles est un sérieux problème d’une importance grandissante. En utilisant diverses trucs astucieux et une tactique persuasive, le Pentagone profite de la jeunesse de notre nation, surtout des déshérités, et vend des jobs militaires sans avenir. Avec leur immense budget et pouvoir politique, les militaires tentent de se vendre comme remède aux problèmes sociaux et économiques de notre pays, même face à de considérables évidences montrant qu’une carrière militaire peut couper court à l’éducation d’un étudiant et lui rendre plus difficile encore de trouver un gagne-pain lucratif. Pourtant, en dépit des meilleurs efforts le taux de recrutement militaires continue à baisser. Ça témoigne du fait que les vraies implications du service militaire obtiennent lentement une attention soutenue et que les campagnes contre le recrutement réussissent. Comme le mouvement pacifiste et tous les gens préoccupés par le bien-être de la jeunesse de notre nation continuent à dévoiler les mensonges des militaires sur l’engagement, il deviendra de plus en plus difficile pour le Pentagone de continuer à mener ses guerres à l’étranger et à tromper et abuser les jeunes citoyens du pays chez eux.

The Glasgow Airport incident looks like an action by a certain security service to turn the people of Scotland against Moslems and against the SNP.
Some of those involved in the plot may have been double agents and some may have been patsies.
The 1605 Gunpowder plot in Britain was a government plot to discredit Catholics. Robert Catesby, Thomas Percy and Francis Tresham, all agents of the British government, were involved in the planning of the Gunpowder plot.
On his death-bed, there were statements by Robert Catesby’s servant that the government’s spymaster Robert Cecil met Catesby on three occasions in the period leading up to the events of of 5 November 1605.
In the 1880s, the Irish nationalists wanted independence from Britain. British Prime Minister Lord Salisbury, decided:
