Iran To Sign Gas Pipeline Deal With Pakistan Without India In October

Tehran, Iran (AHN) – Iran will sign a multi-billion dollar gas pipeline deal with Pakistan without India by the end of October 2007, officials say in the capital, Tehran on Saturday.

“The peace pipeline contract … will be ready to sign by the end of October,” Hojatollah Ghanimi-Fard, Iran’s Representative to the talks, told local media, adding: “It was agreed that the price be calculated according to the current gas market standards.”

Indian officials have been absent from the talks over the so-called “peace pipeline” between Iranian and Pakistani officials to settle the deal, which would see Iranian gas sent to Pakistan and to India via Pakistan, according to reports.

Ghanimi-Fard said India was welcome to join the contract “whenever this country’s problems are resolved and it will be a tripartite deal.”

“All issues of disagreement were studied again and all points have been finalized,” he said, adding the final meeting will be held in Pakistan in mid-October to “study the text of the contract to see if it does not contradict agreements.”

Mukhtar Ahmed, Advisor to Prime Minister on Energy Affairs, said that they had invited the Iranian side to visit Islamabad from Oct. 15-19 so they could have a look at the final draft and finalize the document.

The Petroleum Secretary of Pakistan Farrukh Qayyum addressed a joint press conference late Friday night.

“We have discussed in depth all the remaining issues including the technical, legal, commercial and financial aspects of the agreement,” Qayyum was quoted as saying.

He also said all the differences have been hammered out and the agreement is ready for signing by end of next month.

Discussions on the $7.4 billion project had started in 1994. However, resolving technical and commercial issues complicated discussions.

The 2,600-kilometre pipeline from Iran’s giant South Pars gas field would initially carry around 60 million standard cubic meters (2.2 billion cubic feet) of gas per day.

PHOENIX, Arizona – La scène semble tirée d’un film d’horreur, pourtant elle est bien réelle: des créatures microscopiques vivant dans des lacs s’introduisent dans le corps de baigneurs insouciants par le nez et se nourrissent de leur cerveau jusqu’à la mort de leurs victimes…

La créature en question est une amibe qui, malgré sa très grande rareté, a déjà tué six garçons et jeunes hommes cette année dans trois Etats américains (Floride, Texas et Arizona). A tel point que le Centre national américain de prévention et de contrôle des maladies (CDC) commence à s’en inquiéter.

“C’est vraiment une phénomène que nous devons suivre de près”, reconnaît Michael Beach, expert du CDC spécialisé dans les maladies liées aux activités de loisirs en milieu aquatique. “C’est une amibe qui adore la chaleur. Elle se porte d’autant mieux que la température de l’eau s’élève. Dans les décennies futures, avec la montée des températures, nous devons nous attendre à voir davantage de cas”.

Cette amibe tueuse, identifiée pour la première fois en Australie dans les années 60, répond au nom savant de Naegleria fowleri. En quatre décennies, seuls quelques centaines de cas ont été répertoriés à travers le monde, dont 23 cas mortels aux Etats-Unis entre 1995 et 2004, selon les chiffres dont dispose le CDC.

Si aux Etats-Unis les cas d’infection proviennent surtout des Etats du Sud, ce protozoaire se retrouve dans toutes sortes de milieux aquatiques -lacs, sources chaudes, jusque dans des piscines mal entretenues- où il se nourrit d’algues et autres bactéries se développant notamment dans les sédiments.

Aux Etats-Unis, les personnes infectées s’étaient baignées dans des eaux douces peu profondes et en avaient remué les fonds en nageant, souligne M. Beach. Si malencontreusement de l’eau s’introduit dans le nez, par exemple lorsque le nageur s’amuse à faire une galipette quand il a pied, l’amibe peut s’accrocher aux parois du nerf olfactif.

Une fois introduite dans l’organisme humain, la Naegleria fowleri détruit les tissus à mesure qu’elle se dirige vers le cerveau, où elle poursuit ses dégâts “principalement en se nourrissant de cellules cérébrales”, explique l’expert du CDC.

Au départ, les personnes infectées ont tendance à se plaindre de nuque raide, de maux de tête et de fièvre. Au stade avancé de la méningo-encéphalite, ils montrent des signes de dommages cérébraux tels des hallucinations et des troubles du comportement.

Une fois que l’infection a pris, les chances de survie sont faibles. En laboratoire, certains médicaments ont réussi à stopper l’amibe, mais dans la réalité les gens atteints ont rarement survécu. “Habituellement, l’issue est fatale dans les deux semaines suivant la première exposition”, note Michael Beach.

Dans le centre de la Floride, les autorités ont mis en service un numéro de téléphone “spécial amibe” pour recommander aux gens de ne pas se baigner dans des eaux tièdes et stagnantes où les algues sont nombreuses. Même type d’avertissement par les autorités sanitaires au Texas.

Pour l’instant, le moyen le plus simple d’éviter d’être infecté, souligne l’expert du CDC, est de se servir d’un pince-nez lorsqu’on se baigne dans ce type d’eaux. AP

Le Parlement iranien approuve un texte présentant la CIA et l’armée américaine comme des organisations terroristes

Le Parlement iranien a approuvé samedi une résolution non-contraignante présentant la CIA et l’armée américaine comme des “organisations terroristes”.

Cette mesure est perçue comme une réponse du berger à la bergère après le vote par le Sénat américain d’une résolution demandant au département d’Etat de désigner le corps d’élite iranien des Gardiens de la Révolution comme une organisation terroriste.

“L’armée américaine et la Central Intelligence Agency (agence centrale de renseignement) sont des agresseurs terroristes qui nourrissent également la terreur”, estiment les 215 députés signataires de cette résolution, adoptée au cours d’une session parlementaire retransmise en direct par la rédio-télevision iranienne. By Richard McGregor | ft.com The Battle of Waterloo. The deaths of six US presidents. The rise of Adolf Hitler. The deflation of the Japanese bubble economy, the 1997-98 Asian financial crisis and even environmental destruction in the developing world.

In a new Chinese best-seller, Currency Wars , these disparate events spanning two centuries have a single root cause: the control of money issuance through history by the Rothschild banking dynasty.

Even today, claims author Song Hongbing, the US Federal Reserve remains a puppet of private banks, which also ultimately owe their allegiance to the ubiquitous Rothschilds.

Such an over-arching conspiracy theory might matter as little as the many fetid tracts that can still be found in the west about the “gnomes of Zurich” and Wall Street’s manipulation of global finance.

But in China, which is in the midst of a lengthy debate about opening its financial system under US pressure, the book has become a surprise hit and is being read at senior levels of government and business.

“Some senior heads of companies have been asking me if this is all true,” says Ha Jiming, the chief economist of China International Capital Corp, the largest local investment bank.

The book also gives ammunition, however hay-wire, to many in China who argue that Beijing should resist pressure from the US and other countries to allow its currency, the renminbi, to appreciate.

The book’s publisher, a unit of the state-owned CITIC group, said Currency Wars had sold nearly 200,000 copies, with an estimated 400,000 extra pirated copies in circulation as well.

Mr Song, an information technology consultant and amateur historian who has lived in the US since 1994 and is now based in Washington, says his interest was sparked by trying to uncover what lay behind the Asian crisis in 1997.

After he began blogging some of his findings, his friends suggested he find a publisher for a longer work. He professes himself surprised by the book’s success.

“I never imagined it could be so hot and that top leaders would be reading it,” he says during a book tour in Shanghai. “People in China are nervous about what’s going on in financial markets but they don’t know how to handle the real dangers. This book gives them some ideas.”

The thing that most shocked him, he says, was his “discovery” that the Fed is a privately owned and run bank. “I just never imagined a central bank could be a private body,” he says.

The Fed does describe itself “as an unusual mixture of public and private elements”. While its seven governors are all appointed by the US president, private banks do hold shares in its 12 regional reserve banks.

But Mr Song ignores the government’s role and argues that the Fed’s key functions are ultimately controlled by five private banks, such as Citibank, all of which have maintained a “close relationship” with the Rothschilds.

Mr Song is defensive about his focus on the Rothschilds and what the book depicts as their Jewish clannishness.

“The Chinese people think that the Jews are smart and rich, so we should learn from them,” he says. “Even me, I think they are really smart, maybe the smartest people on earth.”

Jon Benjamin, chief executive of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, is not impressed. “The Chinese have the highest regard for what they see as Jewish intellectual and commercial acumen, with little or no concurrent culture of antisemitism. This claim, however, plays to the most discredited and outmoded canards surrounding Jews and their influence. That it should gain currency in the world’s most important emerging economy is a great concern.”

The book has been ridiculed in internet postings in China, for exaggerating the lingering influence of the Rothschilds and being a re-write of existing conspiracy theories in the west.

Mr Ha puts the book’s popularity down to the decade-long stagnation in Japan and the Asian financial crisis, which he says had a profound impact on many Chinese policymakers.

Such officials remain deeply suspicious of advice from western countries to open up the financial system and float the currency. “They think it is just a new way of looting developing countries,” Mr Ha says.

Mr Song himself has been commissioned to write a number of new books to capitalise on his success, on the yen, the euro and also on China’s financial system.

But in conversation, he sounds hesitant about the line his future tomes might take. “This book may be totally wrong, so before the next one, I have to make sure my understanding is right,” he says.

“Before this book, I was a nobody, so I could say anything I liked, but now the situation has changed.”

A 9/11 first responder has shed new light on how he heard a countdown before the demolition of Building 7, how he was told to “shut up” by superiors when he tried to report secondary explosions and why “vicious security” measures were enacted to prevent people from accessing certain areas of ground zero.

Former Air Force Special Operations for Search and Rescue expert, Kevin McPadden traveled to ground zero completely of his own accord and spent the next four days searching through the rubble and nearby buildings for survivors.

In a video interview with Alex Jones, McPadden describes the moments before the collapse of WTC 7.

“When we saw the firemen pick up their equipment and start bustling back and forth they were getting ready to do something, we started asking questions,” said McPadden.

Despite numerous attempts to glean information from Red Cross officials, McPadden and other first responders were told nothing while one official, shortly after talking to firemen, held his hand over his radio and told them to “just sit tight” and “calm down” before admitting “they’re thinking about bringing the building down.”

McPadden and his colleagues were miffed as to what the official meant by this statement, initially thinking the building next to them was possibly being brought down.

“He took his hand off for the last three seconds of it – and you hear three, two, one,” said McPadden, adding that the official then gave a heartfelt look and told the first responders, “just run for your life.”

McPadden got the impression that the Red Cross official had been ordered not to give the first responders a warning that the building was coming down.

“And you heard – boom, boom, boom,” said McPadden, describing the sound of bombs tearing down the building.

McPadden explained that the reason Democracy Now host Amy Goodman and others were captured on video (watch above) running from the scene and reaching stationary onlookers as the building started to collapse is that they were able to hear the full countdown on the radio further own the street.

Later in the interview, McPadden reveals how he witnessed up close steel beams from the twin towers that had been symmetrically cut at perfect angles as is shown in this image – a clear sign that explosives were used. McPadden said that officials were acting very suspiciously and subsequently prevented people from getting near the beams.

He also highlighted the fact that “vicious security” was quickly set up around certain areas of ground zero and that people were barred from accessing certain areas for no reason and also had their cameras confiscated.

When McPadden attempted to report that secondary explosions were heard by numerous people, he was harshly ordered to “shut up” and “don’t repeat it” by superiors.

He also talked to numerous firefighters who acknowledged that they also heard secondary explosions, but said that “Obviously somewhere in their command structure, they were told to shut up.”

Les Six remettent à novembre leur décision concernant les sanctions contre l’Iran

Vendredi, les six pays négociateurs sur le dossier nucléaire iranien ont remis à novembre prochain la décision de prendre ou non des sanctions supplémentaires contre l’Iran, rapportent les agences Reuters et Associated Press.

Selon la déclaration conjointe adoptée par les Etats-Unis, la Russie, la Chine, la Grande-Bretagne, la France et l’Allemagne, les “six” voteront la troisième résolution du Conseil de sécurité de l’ONU en novembre prochain, après avoir entendu les rapports du haut représentant de l’UE pour la politique étrangère et de sécurité commune (PESC) Javier Solana et du directeur général de l’Agence internationale de l’énergie atomique (AIEA) Mohamed ElBaradei

En réponse au refus de Téhéran d’établir un moratoire sur l’enrichissement d’uranium, le Conseil de sécurité des Nations unies a adopté les résolutions 1737 et 1747 prévoyant des sanctions contre les programmes nucléaire et balistique iraniens. Cependant, Téhéran a refusé de remplir les exigences formulées dans ces documents et les a qualifiées d’illégitimes.

Il n’en reste pas moins qu’au début de l’été dernier, après une rencontre entre le secrétaire du conseil de sécurité iranien Ali Larijani et le président de l’AIEA Mohamed ElBaradei, Téhéran a accepté de reprendre sa coopération avec l’AIEA afin de convaincre la communauté mondiale du caractère pacifique de son programme nucléaire.

Aux termes de l’entente intervenue en juillet dernier, Téhéran s’est engagé à fournir à l’AIEA avant décembre 2007 des informations sur plus de 20 années de développement de son programme nucléaire. Cette semaine, des représentants de l’agence sont arrivés à Téhéran pour étudier certaines questions, dont celles concernant l’utilisation militaire de l’énergie atomique par l’Iran.

Dans leur déclaration conjointe, les “six” se sont félicités de l’entente intervenue entre l’Iran et l’AIEA. “Néanmoins, nous invitons l’Iran à présenter d’urgence et de façon efficace des résultats concrets susceptibles d’éclaircir toutes les questions importantes et de dissiper les doutes au sujet de son programme nucléaire, dont les questions relatives à l’utilisation militaire de l’atome”, indique le document.

Le Hamas affirme avoir 50.000 hommes armés pour affronter les forces d’occupation

Cinquante mille hommes armés et des centaines de kamikazes sont prêts à repousser ou entraver une opération militaire des forces d’occupation d’envergure dans la bande de Gaza, a affirmé le Hamas qui contrôle le territoire. L’autorité d’occupation menace de mener une offensive à grande échelle pour faire cesser les tirs de roquettes d’activistes palestiniens que l’armée n’a pas réussi à réduire fortement par ses frappes aériennes ou ses opérations commando.

Mais le bilan humain d’une telle attaque sur un territoire aussi densément peuplé que la bande de Gaza serait très lourd, et il explique les hésitations du gouvernement de l’autorité d’occupation , au regard des pertes limitées dues aux tirs de roquettes.

Une opération d’envergure dans les prochaines semaines compliquerait en outre la conférence de novembre sur le Proche-Orient organisée par les Etats-Unis.

“Il y a beaucoup de choses à prendre en compte avant d’entreprendre une telle opération et le sommet est sans nul doute l’un des éléments que l’on ne peut se permettre d’ignorer”, a déclaré le vice-ministre de la Défense de l’autorité d’occupation Matan Vilnai à la radio militaire.

Nizar Rayyan, haut dirigeant du Hamas, a en tout cas prévenu que le mouvement était prêt à répliquer. Sur un site internet affilié au mouvement, il a affirmé que 50.000 combattants et 400 candidats à des attentats suicide étaient prêts à la riposte.

Deux cents femmes se sont également portées volontaires pour s’attacher des ceintures d’explosifs et affronter ainsi les blindés israéliens, ce qui a surpris le commandement du Hamas, a ajouté Rayyan.

Les services de renseignement de l’autorité d’occupation estiment que le Hamas a réuni au moins 20.000 combattants qui savent se servir d’armes légères de toutes sortes.

Le Hamas prend le Hezbollah pour modèle. Ce dernier a fait subir d’importants revers à l’armée d’occupation lors de leur confrontation armée durant l’été 2006.

L’ancien Conseiller à la sécurité nationale américaine, B a virulemment critiqué cette semaine la politique belliqueuse de l’administration Bush avant de reconnaître que l’Iran était parfaitement capable de se défendre. toute frappe militaire contre l’Iran sera catastrophique et risque d’être suivi d’une longue période d’enlisement.

Invité d’une émission télévisée de grande écoute en compagnie de Henri Kissinger, Zbigniew Brezinski a mis en garde Washington contre l’usage systématique d’une rhétorique guerrière visant la RII. “Je crois que le Président Bush et surtout son adjoint Dick Cheney cherchent à créer des tensions comme ils l’ont fait à la veille de l’invasion de l’Irak”.
“Lorsque le Président se dit convaincu que les Iraniens veulent se doter de la bombe atomique sans avancer de preuves, il est en train d’agrandir cette affaire . c’est vrai que nous avons des doutes et que nous les (les iraniens) soupçonnons mais nous ne disposons d’aucun document probant en ce sens”.

Conseiller à la sécurité nationale sous l’administration Carter, Zbigniew Brezinski a affirmé qu’il soupçonnait le programme nucléaire iranien d’une dimension clandestine et d’arrière-pensée militaires. “Cependant, j’ignore comment il faudrait interpréter les velléités iraniennes. La volonté iranienne d’acquérir l’arme atomique est certaine mais aucune preuve n’est en mesure de le confirmer”.

B a tenu à mettre en garde le chef de la Maison Blanche. “Apres l’Irak, je conseille au Président de faire attention à ses discours et de vérifier ses propos avant de les formuler en public”.

“Si les Etats Unis décident d’entrer en guerre contre l’Iran, ce sera un quatrième ouvert au Moyen Orient après l’Irak, l’Afghanistan, et le Pakistan . c’est la fin du projet d’un retrait rapide de nos troupes qui risquent de s’enliser dans la région au moins pour les vingt années à venir”.

L’autre invité de cette émission Henri Kissinger a réitéré les allégations de la Maison Blanche à l’encontre de l’Iran. Ex conseiller du président Nixon, Kissinger a prétendu que l’Iran cherchait à accéder à une capacité nucléaire à des fin militaire. ” Je ne crois toutefois pas qu’ils (les Iraniens) aient déjà la bombe ; il leur faut au moins deux ou trois ans”.

Kissinger a appelé la communauté internationale à créer une coalition avec les états qui s’opposent à l’accès de l’Iran à la technologie nucléaire. “Cette coalition devra se créer au sein du Conseil de sécurité et donner la primauté à la diplomatie”.

Interrogés sur la présence du Président iranien , Mahmoud Ahmadinejad à l’université de Columbia, Kissinger et Brezinski se sont exprimés en des termes fort divergents. pour Kissinger le discours du président iranien a été “déplacé”, jugement que ne partageait pas Zbigniew Brezinski. “L’université est un lieu d’échange d’idées et de débat et je ne vois aucune objection à ce qu’un de nos opposants s’y exprime”.

En dépit d’incessantes campagnes de dénigrement qui la vise, la RII a réitéré à mainte reprises le caractère parfaitement inoffensif de son programme nucléaire et le fait qu’elle ne cherchait à aucun prix à fabriquer l’arme atomique. l’arme atomique ne peut avoir de place dans la doctrine défensive iranienne dans la mesure où son acquisition va à l’encontre des principes idéologiques de l’Ordre islamique. l’Agence internationale de l’énergie atomique a confirmé, elle aussi l’absence de tout indice en faveur d’une quelconque dérive militaire des activités nucléaires iraniennes.

El Baradai avait demandé récemment aux dirigeants occidentaux d’éviter le langage martial et de tirer leçon de la guerre d’Irak.

Le président iranien Mahmoud Ahmadinejad et le leader vénézuélien Hugo Chavez sont convenus de renforcer la lutte contre la domination mondiale des Etats-Unis.

“Nous sommes convenus de suivre ensemble la voie de la lutte contre l’impérialisme et d’intensifier notre coopération pour éradiquer la domination américaine dans le monde”, a déclaré M. Chavez à l’issue de la courte visite effectuée au Venezuela par son homologue iranien.

Le leader vénézuélien a qualifié M. Ahmadinejad de “grand combattant antiaméricain de notre époque”. Selon M. Chavez, cet éloge est mérité, car le président iranien est “un vrai combattant pour la vérité et la justice sociale tant recherchées par les peuples du monde”.

A son tour, M. Ahmadinejad a qualifié le dirigeant vénézuélien de “grand révolutionnaire d’Amérique latine”.

“L’impérialisme n’a pas d’autre issue que de se mettre à respecter le choix des peuples, sinon il sera condamné à périr”, a assuré le président iranien.

C’est la troisième visite du leader iranien au Venezuela. Quant à M. Chavez, il a visité l’Iran cinq fois.

Leur dernière rencontre a eu lieu en juillet 2007 à Téhéran.

Le Venezuela et l’Iran bâtissent leurs relations bilatérales sur la base d’une déclaration d’alliance stratégique. Les deux pays ont signé des dizaines d’accords prévoyant le développement de la coopération économique, notamment la création d’entreprises pétrochimiques et métallurgiques mixtes, ainsi que la production conjointe de pétrole.

Afin de pouvoir réaliser des projets dans les industries pétrolière, pétrochimique et pharmaceutique, dans les constructions mécaniques, dans les domaines de la culture et de l’éducation, les parties ont institué un fonds de deux milliards de dollars.

M. Chavez a maintes fois affirmé son soutien aux programmes nucléaires civils de l’Iran.

Northern Rock debt to Bank now £8bn

Northern Rock borrowed another £5bn from the Bank of England, it emerged on Thursday, bringing its indebtedness to the central bank close to £8bn since it was given access to emergency funds nearly two weeks ago.

The Financial Times has learned that Northern Rock last week distributed almost £40m in dividends to holders of preference shares, issued to maintain capital ratios just two days before the bank cancelled its interim dividend to ordinary shareholders, saving about £60m.

People close to Northern Rock said that while the bank had the option of deferring the dividends on the preference shares, payable each September 21, it would have had to give three weeks’ notice.

The extent of Northern Rock’s financing crisis – it has now borrowed the equivalent of a third of its retail deposits at the end of June – is raising fresh concerns about its viability.

Northern Rock has been ap­proached by potential buyers for all or part of its business. But debt advisers and distressed investors have been circling its investment vehicles. Creditors holding the bank’s tier two debt are forming a formal committee to protect their interests in any restructuring or insolvency and have appointed investment bank Houlihan Lokey and the Bingham McCutchen law firm to advise them.

The additional borrowing appears to be linked to mortgages the bank has underwritten but not been able to sell on. In normal circumstances, it would have expected to issue £8bn in mortgage-backed securities in the fourth quarter. Expectations are rising that some investment vehicles might be forced to dissolve.

The Treasury declined to comment on where it would stand in the list of unsecured creditors if the bank went under.
